Sparkman High Coaches


Coach Jamie Coggins was named the Sparkman head boys basketball coach in May 2012. Coggins has 25 years of coaching experience at the 6A/7A level with stints at Buckhorn, Bob Jones, and five years as an assistant at Sparkman. He took the Senators to the State Championship game in 2013 where they were named Runner-Up. He was also The Huntsville Times’ Coach of the Year. Coggins was also a part of the championship runner-up team (Bob Jones) and eight regional championships with 11 regional appearances. He has a bachelors in social science education from Athens State University and a master’s in physical education from Alabama A&M University. He currently teaches American History. Coggins is married to Sparkman journalism and history teacher, Erin Coggins. The couple has two four-legged children, Chesney and Marley.

Coach David Hughes
JV Boys Coach

Coach Hughes is beginning his 17th season at Sparkman High School. He currently coaches the junior varsity basketball team and is an assistant for the varsity team. Hughes is also in charge of the Sparkman Basketball Strength Program. Prior to coming to Sparkman, Hughes was an assistant coach at St. Paul’s in Mobile and an assistant under Ron King at Hazel Green. Hughes grew up in Huntsville attending Grissom High School and playing basketball for the legendary Coach Ronnie Stapler. He has a B.S. in Business from Auburn University and B.S. in Education from Athens State University. Coach Hughes and his wife, Barbara, have a dog named Mac.

Coach Jarvis Wilson 
Head  Girls  Coach

Jarvis Wilson enters his 10th year as a Head Girls Basketball Coach. He is from West Point, MS and attended Stillman College. He is entering his first year leading the Sparkman Lady Senators Basketball Program.  He is coming from Carver – Birmingham High School, where he led a program that had 98 wins in 30 years prior to his hire into a program he leaves with a record of (158 – 63) in his 7 years with the school, becoming the winningest coach in the program leading them to (2) Final Fours along with their first state championship in school history. Coach Wilson has (4) Final Four appearances during his Head Coach tenure with two trips to the State Championship game. The first two came during his first two years as a Head Coach at Blount High School in Mobile, AL where he set a school record for most wins in a season with (31) leaving the school with the highest winning percentage in his two years as the coach. Coach Wilson has a coaching record of (219 – 72). Coach Wilson teaches Kinesiology and Team Sports at Sparkman High School. He is married to Kimberly Wilson and have five children Demensha (26), twins Jailyn and Gailyn (25) Kamaya (13) and Khloe (12).

Jerry Davis, Jr. was named the freshman basketball coach in 2016. Davis, who was previously an intern at Sparkman, boasts more than 14 years of organized basketball experience as he enters his first season with the Senators.  Davis a former player of Sparkman High School went on to play collegiate ball at Shorter University. In his first year at Shorter, Davis was a member of the FAB Four NAIA Team it was their first time ever becoming #1 seed in school history. The team won  the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championship in 2013. Davis was named Academic All-American in 2011 (NAIA), 2013 (GSC- D2), 2014(GSC-D2), & 2015 (GSC-D2). 

Davis has a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. He is now pursuing a second B.S. degree in Physical Education

Coach Antonio Cook
Assistant Girls Coach

Antonio Cook, is a native of Selma, Alabama. He graduated from Jefferson Davis Sr High school (Montgomery, AL) and also from Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN). Over his career he has worked with a number of athletes from youth to professional to obtain their dreams in sports. Antonio also has trained, hosted, and assisted students in finding families from other countries as far as Lithuania.  His passion is his family, training the youth for leadership, and providing quality services to each student athlete and non-athlete. Wife, Constance, kids, Noah, Adynn, and AC.

Coach Matt Prince
Assistant Girls Coach

Matt Prince is from Taft, which is a small area located in Lincoln County, TN. He played his high school basketball career at Lincoln County High, and after graduating from L.C.H.S., he received a basketball scholarship to Martin Methodist College, (now known as University of Tennessee Southern), where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. A few years after graduating from M.M.C. Matt started his coaching career at his high school alma mater. He went on to coach 9 years at L.C.H.S., 5 years on the boy’s side as an assistant for the varsity team and head J.V. coach, and 4 years on the girl’s side as an assistant for the varsity team and head J.V. coach. Simultaneously, he enrolled at Athens State University where he received his second Bachelors of Science degree, this one in Education. This will be Matt’s 10th year coaching high school basketball and 1st season with the Sparkman Lady Senators.
