Sparkman High Coaches


Coach Jamie Coggins was named the Sparkman head boys basketball coach in May 2012. Coggins has 25 years of coaching experience at the 6A/7A level with stints at Buckhorn, Bob Jones, and five years as an assistant at Sparkman. He took the Senators to the State Championship game in 2013 where they were named Runner-Up. He was also The Huntsville Times’ Coach of the Year. Coggins was also a part of the championship runner-up team (Bob Jones) and eight regional championships with 11 regional appearances. He has a bachelors in social science education from Athens State University and a master’s in physical education from Alabama A&M University. He currently teaches American History. Coggins is married to Sparkman journalism and history teacher, Erin Coggins. The couple has two four-legged children, Chesney and Marley.

Coach David Hughes

Coach Hughes is beginning his 17th season at Sparkman High School. He currently coaches the junior varsity basketball team and is an assistant for the varsity team. Hughes is also in charge of the Sparkman Basketball Strength Program. Prior to coming to Sparkman, Hughes was an assistant coach at St. Paul’s in Mobile and an assistant under Ron King at Hazel Green. Hughes grew up in Huntsville attending Grissom High School and playing basketball for the legendary Coach Ronnie Stapler. He has a B.S. in Business from Auburn University and B.S. in Education from Athens State University. Coach Hughes and his wife, Barbara, have a dog and three cats..

Jerry Davis, Jr. was named the freshman basketball coach in 2016. Davis, who was previously an intern at Sparkman, boasts more than 14 years of organized basketball experience as he enters his first season with the Senators.  Davis a former player of Sparkman High School went on to play collegiate ball at Shorter University. In his first year at Shorter, Davis was a member of the FAB Four NAIA Team it was their first time ever becoming #1 seed in school history. The team won  the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championship in 2013. Davis was named Academic All-American in 2011 (NAIA), 2013 (GSC- D2), 2014(GSC-D2), & 2015 (GSC-D2). 

Davis has a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. He is now pursuing a second B.S. degree in Physical Education

Coach Adrian Pritchett

Varsity Assistant-Adrian Pritchett

Coach Adrian Pritchett (A.P.) is a former all state standout for coach Jamie Coggins at Bob Jones High School. A.P. signed a Division I scholarship to Tennessee State University. He had a stellar college career. A.P. is in his 6th year as Sparkman varsity assistant coach. A.P. coached division II basketball prior to joining coach Coggins' staff.


Coach Patrick Delay is in his 19th season at Sparkman High School. He’s been apart of almost 400 victories at Sparkman along with three state championships and five Final Fours His 2014 was Alabama State Runner-Up. Coach Delay teaches Advanced Placement Statistics and Algebra 2 with Trigonometry. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's and a master's degree in secondary mathematics education in 2001 and assisted with the women’s basketball team for three years while in college. Coach Delay is married to Amy Delay and has a daughter, Sophie and two sons, Grady and Hobbs.

Cedric J. Austin begins his eighth season as assistant coach for the Senators basketball program.As a 2006 Sparkman High School graduate, Cedric was a student assistant of the 2002-2003 6A State Championship team under “Hall of Fame” Coach June Seals. Also while attending Sparkman, Cedric was a two-year letterman where he received 2005 Huntsville Times Classic All-Tournament honors and was a member of the 2005 AHSAA Final Four team.Cedric played four-years at Freed-Hardeman University, where he was part of Lions’ 2009 & 2011 NAIA D1 National Tournament teams. Also as a senior, Austin received 1st Team All-TranSouth Conference honors.

Coach Jesse Brooks has 20 years of coaching experience in basketball and volleyball.  He has coached freshman teams at Franklin County High School, Western Hills High in Frankfort, Ky and Hazel Green High School .Brooks was the 7th and 8th grade boys' basketball coach and the 7th and 8th grade volleyball coach at Meridianville Middle School.  He is the current SHS Head Volleyball coach.  Brooks attended Kentucky State University for his Bachelor's and Alabama A&M University for his Masters.  He is Married to Lanora Brooks and has three girls Jade, Jasmine, and Leah.

Coach Jon Turnbough
Strength and Conditioning

JT Turnbough has a Bachelor of Science degree from Tarleton State University in Exercise and Sports Science in Fitness Management and Secondary Education. and is certified in Texas & Alabama in both and  physical education. He has experience in performance training for sports specific areas, including basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, football, and powerlifting. 

He has been married 28 years to his high school sweetheart Mardenna. They  have two children,  Chelsie  and Tristenne. He is the proud grandfather to   Maddox (5 years) and  Paisley (3 years).

Coach Andrea Davis
Varsity Assistant

 Andrea Davis is beginning her first year with the Sparkman Girls Basketball Team. She was named an All-Region player for the Austin High School Lady Bears under the instruction of Coach Billy Miles. She continued her basketball career at Northwest Shoals Community College under the instruction of Coach Kristy Ward where she was instrumental in the team winning a State Championship her freshman year and gained All-Tournament Team Honors. She concluded her basketball career at the University of Alabama – Huntsville and graduated with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences. She went on to attend graduate school at Alabama A&M University where she received dual Masters Degrees in Speech/Language Pathology and Instructional Leadership. She currently serves as the Speech/Language Pathologist for Sparkman High School and Sparkman 9th Grade Academy, Assistant Coach for the girls’ basketball team program, and Co-Head Coach for the Sparkman Senator Learning Community Special Olympics Basketball Team.
